I have made ceramic pellets using doped zirconia ceramics. The pellet glows when kept on torchlight.
In order to measure the translucency of your specimen, you need to measure the color of the specimen using a spectrophotometer. The (L), (a), and (b) color notation of each specimen must be measured against black and white backgrounds. The translucency parameter (TP) is calculated from the color difference between the specimen over the two backgrounds as follows:
TP = [(Lw* - Lb*)2 + (aw* - ab*)2 + (bw* - bb*)2]1/2
The subscript 'w' or 'b' refers to the color coordinates over each background.
Please note that:
(L) refers to lightness (in which 100 represents white and 0 represents black
(a) refers to the red-green chromatic coordinate.
(b) refers to the blue-yellow chromatic coordinate.
