This is a pike conger, genus Muraenesox (family Muraenesocidae).
Two species occur in the area:
Muraenesox bagio (Hamilton 1822), with 47-59 dorsal-fin rays before the vertical through anus, 33-39 lateral-line pores before anus, interorbital distance 9-11 in head length, and 128-141 vertebrae.
Muraenesox cinereus (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775), with 66-78 dorsal-fin rays before the vertical through anus, 40-47 lateral-line pores before anus, interorbital distance 8-9 in head length, and 145-159 vertebrae.
None of these discriminating characters are visible in the photographs; therefore an identification to the species level is not possible based on these photographs.
Both species are found on soft bottoms, from estuaries and shallow marine water down to deeper trawling grounds (M. bagio to 100 m depth, M. cinereus to 800 m).
I got this eel from Andaman Islands during a bottom trawl operation at a depth range of 30 - 80 m. Thank you for identifying. I dont have the specimen for doing the meristics and morphometrics.
