Temperature increases from crust to the core. I like to know the possible reasons behind this natural phenomenon and also the importance, if any of this for the existing life on earth.
Depletion of Ozone layer is major reason, as far as i understand. The direct exposure of crust to intense sunlight, causes its temperature to increase. Even the use of petroleum sources is contributing factor to this phenomenon.

The presence of decaying radioactive mass (finally decays to Lead or Iron making those elements abundant) at the core contribute to the natural heat generation in our planet. Although cosmic heats contribute mainly to atmospheric temperature rise, they also contribute to the heating up of crust. But the centre being a heat source, it's only sink is radially outwards. So, the heat flux density goes down as we move away from core. This results in gradual temperature rise from crust to core.
