NO, unless roots are thoroughly homogenized during the extraction followed by precipitation with ethanol. This is purely dependent on cell lysis and prevention of co-precipitation of DNA along with other cell debries.
Of course, you can try it. The yield would be less and you will have tough time to get rid of protein contamination. Additional phenolic washes would be helpful to remove protein contamination but you will compromise the yield. It depends on what is your downstream objective.
