A lot of research efforts have been invested in the production of hydrogen from photochemical water splitting. That being said, there is nowhere in the world where this hydrogen production route is industrially demonstrated. I understand there are improvements in the area of phocatalysis. However, efficiency of photochemical water splitting is still low at 11%
maximum, with a very high cost of about 10 $/kg H2. What is the feasibility of commercial acceptability of this hydrogen production route by 2040? Where do we stand now (research - wise)?
