We are making Tris (pH 7.5) or sodium phosphate (pH 7.4) buffers. They are cool and at the right pH when we are complete.

After 24 hours, the pH has risen to 8.8 or 9.4. We have cleaned the glassware both in a dishwasher and by hand to ensure no residual alkaline detergent remains. We have rinsed multiple times with nanopure water.

The pH probe is new. Could this be the pH meter itself (Beckman psi from 2003). Can anyone provide any suggestions as this is driving us crazy and killing our proteins? We have taken nanopure water, add naCl to 100mM and checked the pH. It is 7.9.
