I synthesized PEG coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles by coprecipitation methods and I would like to ask whether they can be dispersed in aqueous NH3 since they have a PEG coating and theoretically will not be harmed by the aqueous ammonia. Is it this way or the magnetite will get oxidized?

Dear George Voulgaridis, oxidize what ? It is already an oxide. Moreover, ammonia is used is preparing Fe2O3. It is in fact dispersed in ammonia aqueous solution even as a neat nanoparticles. Thank you for your kind reply. I know it is an oxide, and in fact Fe in Fe3O4 is on its higher oxidation state (Fe3+). Basically what I was afraid of was the case of Fe3O4 NPs transforming to Fe2O3 in the aqueous ammonia but it seems that there is no such a case. Thank you again, I will look at the pub you provided.
