I have two alternating current wave forms (raw sine waves) that are very similar to each other during steady state and the only difference between these two wave forms may last only for few milli-seconds. I have labelled the two wave forms as Wave 1 and Wave 2. I want to use pattern recognition (machine learning) to correctly identify the wave form's label when presented with a test wave form.
All ideas and suggestions are welcome.

If you want to work out the difference of the two waves, I suggest to calculate and evaluate the phase difference with respect to a reference wave. This works very well with direct conversion. The change in interference patterns is clear and unambiguous.
