I am currently doing antimicrobial work with plant extracts using disk diffusion test from Cucurma caesia and Pandanus amaryllifolious, both aqueous and organic extracts with different concentrations (200mg/ml, 100 mg/ml, 50mg/ml, 25mg/ml)
However, my result does not show a complete inhibition as my positive controls. Somewhat there are differences in growth activities and assuming it is a partial growth.
My questions are:
- To what extend do u define as partial growth?
- How to evaluate this partial growth activity( I am assuming doing MIC is the best option)

Concerning the disk diffusion technique, you mentioned the concentration mg/ml. What is the mass of the extract in each disk ?
In general when we use plant extracts, the quantity used in each disk is more than quantity used for pure compounds.
In your case, the weak effect is may be related to the quantity used or antagonism effect.
You measure the zone of inhibition diameter (mm) then you can evaluate the degree of inhibition (the disk diameter 6 mm):
inhibition diameter less than 8 mm: no inhibition
inhibition diameter 8-10 mm: weak inhibition
inhibition diameter 11-15 mm: medium inhibition
inhibition diameter 16-20 mm: strong inhibition
inhibition diameter more than 20 mm: very strong inhibition
You can use the previous evaluation if you respect the standard protocol.

I saw this question a bit late. Sorry if you have solved your problem. Do you mean a “static activity” by “partial activity”?
If you want to check such an activity, I recommend you to add MBC test after MIC.
If I could understand your problem in details, I think I can help you. Do you have a photo showing those inhibition zones?

So far I know the literature kept inside the packets of different antimicrobial discs supplied by the commercial companies, complete details about the relation of sensitivity level of tested bacteria and zone of inhibition is given. From that list, that can be easily covered. But for the resistant strains of bacteria, the picture may be different.
