Ten months ago, I have submitted a manuscript for a Scopus-listed journal. In acknowledging the receipt of the document, I was informed that the review process normally takes not more than 8 weeks. The tracking of the paper always gives the same message: Your paper current status is - Submitted to ED Department. I tried to send reminders to the editors but to no avail! Do you have any suggestions!

This is one of the highlighted issue in research because some journals shown they have short time for review but in fact it actually take very long time which badly effect research efficiency of the researchers, delayed the degrees.
To avoid such problems follow those journal that have higher speed of publication.
Another suggestion that you can provide those reviewers who can review for you in short period of time.
3rd or ultimate suggestion is that withdrawal your artical from that journal and submit to other......

I agree your statement. Now I am facing same type of problem. I submitted two article in SCI journals, w.e.f Dec. 2019 and Mar. 2020, now current status is - UNDER REVIEW. I already emailed to the Editor-in-Chief 3-4 times but no reply.
Thank you dear Zaib Ullah for your suggestions. I submitted the article to this Journal on the basis of their fast review process. As for other suggestion, the Journal didn't offer providing reviewers who would review in short period of time. As for your suggestion of withdrawing the paper, I feel disappointed wasting all this time for nothing. Best regards!

For me it takes from 3 days to two weeks. It depends on the length, quality, errors, and references of the paper. Regards

No, it is not a Scopus journal but one without impact factor. For Scopus journal it takes a month at least. It depends...
Exactly! I have another one now in its final stage. It has taken more than 9 months of process but the first reply was after 60 days only! Regards!
My first paper submitted to Scopus took two months for acceptance but it was only published on a platform SSRN !!
I have the same problem with a journal that assured 3-4 months for double blind peer-review. Now, we are at the beginning of the sixth month. I contact them. They say that one reviewer has given his judgement, but they are waiting for the second one. As for my experience, I think that the more innovative is the article, the more difficult the reviewer's task. Unfortunately, I don’t see other solution than to wait (or change journal).

Dear Dr. @Ahmed T. Hussein. My thinking is exactly the same. In fact, I'm still waiting. Meanwhile, the journal wrote to me informing that they have contacted a third reviewer, since the second one did not send them his report within the deadline.
According to the type: a Final Degree Project is not the same as a Master's Degree Final Project or a Doctoral Thesis, just as it is not the same to review a Scientific Article. Normally, serious, impactful and indexed Magazines usually give about two months to review an original Article for possible publication.

I agree with Rani chukwudi okeke that this problem became compounded by the Covid-19 development. Again, very many high impact factor journals now publish open access versions from where they make instant income.
Indeed, I also notice that this problem has increased with the existence of the pandemic, although usually when the journal sends an article for a reviewer, it specifies a certain period of time to review and return it, usually not more than three months... But I think that journals cannot forces reviewers to complete their review on time because reviewers do it voluntarily. Journals have a group of reviewers with specialties that suit them, and they work voluntarily from them...The journal usually sends a request before it sends manuscripts with the title and time period. And usually, the reviewers are left free if they can complete the review within this period, so the problem is that the reviewers if they have a business or are busy, do not have to accept the review in order to assign this task to others... My sincere gratitude to everyone.
Dear Ahmed T. Hussein , Ten month is very long time. Usually we have received a first decision letter by editors after one month. If we will not receive a first decision from the journal, normally we asked about the status of our manuscript. We had only a single case where our paper was outlined on the journal platform during 7 month (with a two step perr-review), but it has been published online after 8 month.

Thank you Manal Hadi Kanaan for your comment. These phenomena are certainly the outcome of the Pandemic effect on how journals handle the processing of documents reviewing. I work as a reviewer for several journals in my field but I cannot recall one single occasion in which I delayed supplying my review. Scopus-listed journals are privileged and part of their indexing criteria depends of efficiency of research reviewing process time!

With the early days of the outbreak of COVID-19, there have been articles published in Q.1 & Q. 2 Journals and the whole review process wouldn't take more than 10 days! This all depends on topics discussed. I doubt that any paper in humanities would take only a month to get published in a Scopus listed journal. In sciences, it is more likely!
