I am looking for suggestions for a chemical resistant paint/coating which I can use to cover the sides of the steel plate except for one face for corrosion testing. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thank you
You can use an industrial lacquer, like the one from the photo, which I recommend. Also, you can use common nail polish (although it is hard to remove after the test, and acetone is needed). Finally, you can also use insulating tape, but you must be aware that crevice may occur in the borders (it must be well fixed). I've tested all these solutions and all perform well in corrosion tests.
Dear Sana Mirza . Epoxy coatings are highly effective. See the following useful link: https://secoatech.com/corrosion-resistant-coatings-for-steel-types-and-uses/
Also, : EPOXYCOAT-AC antirust epoxy primer is applied for active anti-corrosive and anti-rust protection of iron and steel surfaces that are to be coated with EPOXYCOAT or DUROFLOOR epoxy systems. See the link: https://web.era-edta.org/uploads/uses-of-maxb/anti-rust-paint-for-metal-56f799

Guilherme Arthur Longhitano Thank you for the suggestions. I think nail paint is the easiest option for me to mask the samples. My only fear is that the nail paint wears off or crevice corrosion occurs during the wet corrosion test for 3-4 weeks. Have you noticed anything similar while using nail paints? Please share your experience about which things should I consider while masking the metal samples using nail paint. Thank you
Aref Wazwaz Thanks for your suggestions. I think these are more useful for industrial-scale applications. I am looking for some quick hacks to work for my lab tests.
In this case I recommend you to make a first test, since the nail paint stability will depend on the temperature, electrolyte and the product quality. It is really important to wait the paint to be TOTALLY dry befor immersion in the tests. Good luck!
