Usually I'd put vials of cells mixed with a Freeze mixture containing DMSO into corning foam boxes into the -80 that cools cells down at 1C/min for 2 days before transferring to the Liquid nitrogen for longterm storage.

But my -80 freezer broke and cells would lyse if put directly into the -180 nitrogen.

Is there any way to make do with the nitrogen? Our controlled rate freezer hasn't arrived yet. Still in transit.

Anyone tried putting the corning foam box into the nitrogen?
