Edward Said, in my opinion, has managed to propose an important alternative perspective that focuses on the notion of "Culture" within the discipline of anthropology. His emphasis on the representation of "ethnic identity" shed light on long record of preconceptions and misunderstanding in depicting the "other"!

I think what E. Said does is to reveal the history of the European colonisers' attempt to dominate the cultures of the colonised peoples in the middle East.

In the nineteenth century anthropological and ethnographical surveys shaped post-colonial theory. Colonial discourse was empowered on the ground of the civilizing mission to legitimize its continuity. I see that anthropology helped in the continuity of power and the narcistic discourse that was marvelously and so intelligently depicted by Edward Said in his book Orientalism. So yes I don't think that the post-colonial theory was the end of anthropology, but it engendered a new vision that has shaken this discipline.
