Organic fluorophore have longer lifetime and shorter lifetime values which are responsible for what kind of species? what is the process involved in the longer lifetime and shorter lifetime in the excited state relaxations. In these two longer and shorter values which one is responsible for more quantum yield and lower quantum yield? is it for any criteria? Please anyone clarify and how we can correlate these emission lifetime and quantum yield.
the shorter lifetime will be from excitation into the singlet state. A much longer lifetime is found for the triplet state, which is often used as an off-state for photoswitching applications. Since photons are emitted substantially less frequently in the triplet state, this one would have a lower yield. As far as I know, controlling whether the molecules are more or less frequently in the triplet state is usually done through covalently linking the fluorophores to a photostabilizer or having photostabilizers in a buffer solution.
