How do I estimate an ordered probit with a mix of ordered and categorical independent variables STATA 13 or 14?
life satisfaction [4 scales]= f(age in years, neighbourhood safety[5 scales], income [4 categories], social class [4 scales], sex [2 categories], etc.
Is there the need to set reference categories?
How are these done in SATA 13 OR 14?

To do a practical regression you can check this tutorial (it should be ok also for STATA 14):

You do not have to set reference categories, but, in order to use categorical independent variables you must use the "i." operator
