Hello....
I am trying to work with the optimization trial in Hec HMS so as to get the optimized value helping to match the observed and simulated streamflow....
Everything worked properly as i have been able successfully optimize some of the factors includinh the curve number and the maximum retention among others.
But when trying to optimize the Lag time, i am getting the optimized values that are similar to the initial values (No change at all). Is there any problem with that? or am i wrong somewhere? pleasw any clarification on this would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi Richard,
Either there's a bug in your model (e.g. the Lag time is not declared as a variable) or its initial value is at a local minimum, in which case it's perfectly normal to leave this value untouched.
Do you know if this value evolves during the optimization process, or is it the same throughout?

Charlie Vanaret Thank you for your answer. However, I was also thinking that may the lag time is perfectly normal to leave it untouched until I tried to optimize the Muskingum K and X which also remained similar to the initial values.
The values did not evolve during the optimization process, rather it is the same throughout.
Got it. Do you declare bounds for the Lag time? Do the gradients of your functions (objective and constraints) have entries for this variable?
