What is your experience using the Online Resources and Websites that accompany some textbooks? Many textbooks come with an access code for the student to open an account on an Online platform that has quizzes, flashcards, practice problems, assignments, and other resources. I am curious to learn about your experience using these type of platforms. Thank you!
Well, Prof Stock , I am a textbook person , I carry my undergrad and grad books till date !!!! Even online for concepts I search for e-books , Scribd is a place I look at times and I recommend textbook too .

I certainly did try to use good quality textbooks that offered online updates from a dedicated website. Textbooks are expensive for cash strapped students. Updates extend the books usefulness. A good quality text usually means good quality updates.

If we want students to truly learn the material, we should stop encouraging this online approach where a student is not supposed to have any book. Any wonder why students today at the graduate level cannot understand supply and demand and how they are related to elasticity and total revenue. Attention is paid so much to the cost of books. However, there is so much benefit from having habing a book at home over the long term than the cost of the book. i still use my Maddala econometrics bookd or even principles book by Samuelson. i bought these books in early 1980’s. My major point is that we ought to make a decision on the learning part and not be so concerned about the cost part. I remember as a graduate student most of my stat. classes required 5 books. My colleague and I produce these materials for our textbooks. I feel they add a dimension to a textbook which help the more motivated students and there appears to be a shift to the gamification of aspects of the education system. It is in the maintenance of the resource where problems may lie. Some date very quickly (our books are in the legal field which can change quite rapidly) and some questions have answers which may be incorrect if poorly drafted. Care over the production of the materials and regular updates (certainly for books with a 2-3 year edition cycle) are essential for online resources to provide added value.
I think as a supplement to a book they have some value but i generally choose a book for the content of the book. Online materials are much lower down on my list of priorities.

ONLINE RESOURCE that accompanied the textbook suppose to suppleme the textbook used in class, but this online resource may have unintended consequence when it lengthens ghe social distance bdtween professoxr and students. The human elements in the learning process is more important than the "appearance" of real learning. This onlinse resource is a supplement and should not be missunderstood as substitute of the learning resource and process. The role of the live lecture, and real time face-to-face consultation outside of class still defines good education.
