ZnO can be used as a transparent conducting oxide in a solar cell. The problem of forming a pn junction in ZnO seems to hinder its use in optoelectronic applications.
ZnO can be grown on glass substrates (borosilicates, soda lime and silica) using several methods like chemical spray pyrolysis, sputtering, hydrothermal methods, sol-gel deposition
For the fabrication of solar cells "corning glass 7059/ corning 1737 F/Eagle Xg" would be good option for good optical transparency region and high temperature stability.
I use to deposit AZO by magnetrón sputtering on glass or on top of semiconductors (CdS, CIGS or CZTS). Sometimes I use also c-Si wafers to check morphology of AZO layers by SEM. In any case, AZO deposition is easy and do not reveals any difficulty. Contact me if you have further doubts, please
