We are in need of measured values for the conversion of indigenous vegetation communities on islands and atolls, globally, to copra (Cocos nucifera) plantations.
I don't know the answer, but I would say that from reading about the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean (aka British Indian Ocean Territory), there can be some difficulty in distinguishing commercial plantation from more extensive plantings and/or wild gardening of natural plants that was undertaken by indigenous populations.
