In most cases, the corresponding author will receive two emails from the journal. The first email contains the assigned manuscript number, while the second contains the handling editor’s name. I'm sure most people are not aware of this probably because they have not been corresponding authors before. While it is not uncommon for an article to be ”with editor” for more than two months, I always advise that instead of waiting endlessly and probably get a rejection at the end, you can contact the handling editor directly through the corresponding author. I believe every manuscript is unique in its journey through the peer review system.
Hassan Muhammad. You are right Sir. In this case, the corresponding author can email the editorial office or the editor-in-chief. However, the editorial staff are most often helpless at this point.
