More traditionally, as in Bialystok et al. (2012) it has been emphasized that bilingualism has postive effects on cognition, as in executive control, and that language leraning can be used as cognitive intervention to promote healthy aging (Bubbico et al., 2019).

More recently Berggren, Nilsson, Brhmer, Schmiedek, and Lovden (2020) and yet others believe that language learning is not panacea for older age cognitive impairment.
