Since I am in the beginning of my career as a researcher, I am curious and serious to explore what makes one a great and successful researcher in today's world.
I am putting this question at RG because being a researcher is the common thread that connect us all here at this platform. We all at RG come with our own personal experiences of becoming a researcher.
My humble request to all experienced researchers/teachers/scientists
to share their own personal experiences regarding what are the common pitfalls that beginning researchers fall prey to? What suggestions would you like to give to new budding researchers?

On Becoming a Researcher: What personality traits, characteristics or professional qualities make one a great researcher?
Some attributes can include:
Very fundamental traits that should not go missed in a researcher are :
* Inquisitiveness
* Intuition
*Zeal for exploration and then exploitation.
*Thorough understanding of the domain
*Positive view points / positive thinking.
* Thinking outside the box.
* At some times a researcher need to be extrovert.
* Capability to accept failures.
I would like to suggest the following qualities: interest, motivation, inquisitiveness, commitment, sacrifice, excelling, knowledge, recognition, scholarly approach, and integration. The characterization and understanding of these qualities would be extremely helpful to those who are beginning the exciting field of research. To be a good researcher first requires the intention to be involved in research and immediately thereafter to show a dedicated interest to do the best research possible. From there we must accumulate the knowledge needed to advance the current ideas already existent in the research world.

Of course I agree with the other two posts but I would say that follow your passion and listen to the voice of your heart are the most important ingredients in any field, including science. Most of the other ingredients you can cultivate.

Dear Dr. Anwar Hussain, your idea sounds very true to me. Having a wide background in different areas may certainly help us to look at a problem from a very different perspective. In my own field of counseling psychology, Dr. Carl Rogers, who revolutionized the field of counseling with his person centered approach to counseling, was trained a agriculturist and theologian in the beginning of his career. And his person centered approach has clear influence from those previous training. I myself am very much interested in literature and it often helps me in my counseling work. Knowledge does not remain isolated , it is connected to others.....Thanks for your personal observation.

I used the scientific method for researching to the best answer. I found some characteristics in my own: 1) courius 2) Creativity 3) Collabollation 4) Resoning 5) carefully 6) resposibility 7) open-mindedness, 8) endure Committed perseverance 9) Honest
