I'd like to share with you ideas about dealing with the off-track students at the university level. How to deal with them to pass in their courses. Are there any rules in your department of university dealing with this issue? Also, as you a professor, how do you deal with your off-track students.
I deal with such kind of students by counsel them and try to find out the reasons behind their behavior/attitude after that i try to tell them about the consequences of their negative behavior on their career.
Off-track students are a product of an entire system, so it should be every educator's responsibility to make sure at-risk students are given the supports they need. As per my understanding, those students who come to university without the benefit of bridging programmes can likewise benefit from a few simple supports: introductory computer classes, and training in time management, note-taking, stress management and study methods. Implementation of special counselling sessions through university staffs related to direction of academic as well as personal advancement can possibly another tactical step regarding this concern.

We need actual or real solutions. Some students are not responsive to our words and discussions even this goes to them. Does your department or university have an action plan for off-track students? some students are off-track by 3 semesters of more.
I would try to discuss this privately with the student and ensure that this is as a private as possible. If things are still not progressing well, I would recommend the student to visit a school counselor.
