Nitrate determination in freeze-dried plant material?

Hello, I am looking for a protocol for extraction and determination of nitrate (Griess test) compatible with lyophilized plant material. I have a protocol that works fine with fresh material but not with freeze dried material.

Try grinding the material. Dissolve the powder and filter (Whatman 2V or equivalent) the material. Run your Greiss test on the filtrate, spile some samples so you can perform a %Recovery test.
