I've not seen or heard of it used for dairy cows. If you are trying to quantify phagocytosis in cattle, I highly suggest the pHrodo kits (flow cytometric). You can analyze phagocytes under a light microscope but it is extremely time consuming and the time nullifies the cost. I had great success with the pHrodo kits in beef animals, collaborators have used it in transition dairy animals as well. If you need to store your cells for a day or two before analysis (e.g. you are using a core lab cytometer have have to book ahead of time) I have used the pHrodo dyes with formaldehyde fixation and had great results. If this is something you want to try send me a message and I can forward a protocol.
