I have National Cancer Institute screening results of my compounds. Upon submission, I am asked by the reviewers to provide standard deviations, what kind of statistical analysis was performed, and its significance. I have scourged the NCI methodology section and many publications throughout the years and couldn't find anyone who met these criteria.
Have you looked at the Cancer Council Australia website to find something comparable?
standard deviation is used to measure the data's distribution of numerical variable. It is a common formula that even a common spreadsheet program like MS-Excel can count. Hope it helps
Difficult to answer without any knowledge about what "screening your compounds" means, but in any case, if these are compounds expected to have any effect on tumors, or similar, then raw results must always be accompanied by statistics. That's not a National Cancer Institure specific requirement, but basic methodology in any experimental science, and especially Heath science. *All* serious publications in Health science give results with standard deviation, and a statistical analysis plan described in the Method part. Almost all give also p-values, result of significance tests.
Your best way is to consult a statistician if you do not have any knowledge on that.
Emmanuel Curis The main problem is that NCI doesn't provide individual data of each experiment. Instead, they provide you with the mean. for every cell line.
