I am encapsulating Nanosilver obtained through reduction of silver nitrate and the yellow colour ofnthe colloidal siver is still obvious after sonication to make lipsomes and after centrifuging to remove imencapsulated silver. I was expecting a clear solution since the nanosilver should have been in the liposome. Is this normal? Has anyone encapsulated a coloured material before?

Please don't take otherwise, the question is not very well as it is written and the query that anyone has done a color encapsulation does not serve your query! The retaining of color can be from many factors contribution. Basically, the encapsulated silver should not show color unless it is not completely encapsulated, it might have been encrusted in the liposomal exterior wall, the washings or purification step is not complete and silver chemical state is changed. Instead of going for checking on these factors, try any modified encapsulation process taking into consideration of these factors; use freshly prepared silver nanos!

Pardon my typo error. I posted the question using my phone so could not proof read before posting. However, I meant that after i have encapsulated the silver in the liposome and centrifuged to remove unencapsulated silver nano, the liposome solution still look coloured. What purification step can I apply as you mentioned?

Thanks for your reply. The purification is also dependent on many factors, most importantly on size and lamellarity of the liposomes. Since I have no idea about your product, as you did not mention much about the product, method for purification can only be suggested. Of many of the techniques used, like centrifugation, dialysis, extrusion, gel filtration and few more, the gel filtration can be attempted by you. You may try Sephadex LH-50 filtration or another better beads - size and general/specific performance based, depending upon your product's characteristics, quality, and need of the purification.
