Myocarditis has been observed as a rare adverse effect after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination, particularly in young males after the second dose.
The incidence is highest in adolescent and young adult males, with rates such as 8.09 cases per 100,000 after the second dose in males, and much lower in females.
Should COVID Vaccination be limited to high-risk groups or elderly only?
To add to this COVID cases death per million was more in Western countries than the African countries despite More vaccination coverage perhaps due to significant risk factor of Obesity. Secondly Japan, Israel , Malaysia , Srilanka , Taiwan Still had mortality of cases post vaccination roll out . These signifies the question about effectiveness of COVID vaccination
its good question. If we observe from epidemiological perspective , we can find some common factors. Among them, Host genetic factors played a major role in determination of clinical outcome. hence, human population evolved under lot of pathogenic pressures naturally gains or develops protection against various evolving pathogens. having said that, if we observe the world map based on the covid pandemic and death toll, we find several geographical hotspots. of note, Europe faced severe damages , followed by USA and other countries. The common factor among these countries (except Srilanka) has less number of infectious or pathogens , parasites repertoire in natural environment, and higher incidence / prevalence of various life style disease and disorders, autoimmune disorders and / or oncogenic .
Then considering the COVID vaccination, the classic or epitope based vaccines provided much safer and classical immunological response. The mRNA or nucleic acid based vaccine is yet to be studied well for its effectiveness. Considering the myocarditis , so far its observed as a " rare" complication. The rate of 8.09 out of 100,000 is a fair deal. If we ignore this fact, it would leads us to another catastrophe . If there is no mass vaccination, we cant generate herd immunity, that causes serious issues. Moreover, natural evolution is an ongoing process, hence there is no other options for us to go for vaccination with minimal collateral damage to the human population. Further, some group of people completely relies on herd immunity, due to lack of basic health access or cultural factors (ex: tribal communities , closed endogamy micro communities .
While any vaccination, we cant say with 100% confidence that, there is no adverse effects over the period of time.
