In syngeneic or haplotype-matched mouse experiments with mixed gender (male and female) recipients, how much does the sex of the donor mouse matter? In your experience, is sex-mismatch not as major a determinant as haplotype-mismatch?
Male > Male and Female > Female will obviously be the best choice.
But what about Male > Female and Female > Male; which one is preferable for long term engraftment and prevention of GVHD?
e.g.- female bone marrow engrafted into male recipient would reconstitute a female immune system that attacks H-Y on male host cells?
