Hi, I am looking for a model and an open source software that can help me predict the effect of a categorical variable (e.g. race or gender) on one continuous outcome measured at three levels (e.g. mortality rate 1, mortality rate 2, mortality 3). I saw somewhere that this can be achieved with multilevel multiple regression analysis, however, beside this method, are there others? What open source software can I use to achieve this? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi, SPSS software is open source. If a comparison is to be made between three variable (mortality rate 1, mortality rate 2, mortality 3) in two variables(race or gender), you can use the MANCOVA statistical method. But if you want to predict the effect of measure two variables, race or gender, on a three-level variable, the statistical method is the same as multilevel multiple regression.
