The OLSR protocol uses Greedy method for the purpose of Multipoint Relay (MPR) selection. Different optimization methods have been proposed for the MPR selection based on node density, necessity first, etc.
1. I want to know the best way to optimize it. Any suggestion in this regard will be appreciated.
2. The RFC for OLSR http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3626.txt only shows the 2003 version. How can I find out about the changes done in MPR selection in the recent version of OLSR?
the best way to find the latest changes in OLSR is to send an email to OLSR designers. Most of time they reply to these requests..
The optimization of an Adhoc routing protocol is correlated to the traffic type. Mainly delay-sensitive applications suffer from routing protocol's inefficiency. Try to find in literature end-to-end QoS framework or other proposals for ad hoc routing protocols. This is a hot research area. I can see more and more interest in ad hoc wireless nets from year to year..
As far as I can see the OLSR v2 draft it revels that there is still the concept of MPRs.

Also, I could find some research done in OLSR v2,
where the simulation results have shown that ETT and ETX when taken as metric outperformed hop count metric.
