I was just trying to relate freezing with decrease in entropy and thought that if one can perform an experiment to prove that the rate of change of entropy in hot water is faster than that of cold, then therein lies the solution to the Mpemba's effect. Is there an experimental way of determining the rate of change of entropy with temperature?
There is difference between structure hot and cold water. Cold water contains long chains of molecules. In hot water they are cracked. This means that hot and cold water significantly differs in the heat capacity, and the time of increasing of size of chains is slower than cooling time.
