The value of migration period i.e. "p" has been set to 5/12. Is there any specific reason behind the same? Why can't we use the migration period as 7/12 when the butterflies are in Land2 for 7months and in Land1 for 5 months. Or is there any other value that we need to take according to our problem statement? How can we decide this?

Same is the case with BAR value and maximum step value.
