I wanted to ask that if we have to develop a modelling tool to anticipate the impacts of weather extreme events on the water quality of a lake but the amount of information collected in the field is scarce. What kind of models would be better to use and which are the natural processes we should include in the models. Please guide me briefly if possible.

I would also add, that while a freely available model (MIKE SHE is not free) like SWAT might be appealing, SWAT is known to underestimate severe events.
CEQUAL-W2 is open source, well-tested and a large user group. There are many Web-based data sources that can provide estimates of nutrient loadings. Hydrologic models such as VIC and DHSVM using the Livneh data set or similar can simulate long-term climate impacts

It is understood that the lake water quality modelling is very different to modelling quality changes in rivers due to lotic environment and principal water quality gradients are in the vertical direction rather than longitudinal. As a consequences of these differences, the majority of lake models are concerned with thermal stratification and eutrophication. There are physical, chemical,biological, hydrodynamic and other models. You have select an appropriate model and matching software to meet the purpose/ objective and goal. For this you have to know the water composition, most significant external and internal factors such as influent quality, mixing pattern, physical and chemical processes, biological growth etc.
