Consensus science is murder most foul in migraine research. 100 years of untrammeled research publications, with the accelerator-to -the-floorboards post- 1941-1944-1958-1965 and a surfeit of data and strongly opinionated entirely speculative debate -- dashing kaleidoscopically at the speed of light with eyes wide-shut -- that can take us around the solar system several times is testament to the fact that migraine has crossed human problem-solving capacity, at least in its present charmed but senseless format.
Is very important to have an open mind, free preconceived ideas (such as artists). Sometimes researchers begin with preconceived ideas about final results of his experiments. Some twenty years ago, a relative of mine has developed a research (as part PhD thesis) in the area of physics, with teachers and researchers, to demonstrate the advantage of the introduction of computers in laboratories, to certify results and mesurements. It found that (without computers), often, teachers and researchers didn't believe the results of his experiments ("there is something wrong"), feeling the need to repeat all the process, to confirm, because they already had since the beginning, conviction acquired about final results.
In this dance/tango between belief and disbelief, creep in bias and prejudice, preconception and philosophic pre-commitment, lack of an overarching matrix and conviction, hyper-reliance on mathematics and statistics, comfort with old thoughts and entrenched dogma, failure to perceive the limits of experimental evidences and analyses, and voila, there is a massive black hole staring in our faces.
