Who thinks it is important to have an the ability to make the distinction between microglia and macrophages in the human brain? Why/why not? Do you believe it is possible to do so?
Shout out to all the researchers who have become wise in the culture of microglia/macrophage, but have not been able to publish because 'it failed'. I seek your wisdom too!!
To distinguish between microglia and macrophages could be of interest if you want to adress if the BBB is broken or increased permeability i.e during inflammation. A way to do that in mouse animal models is to inject macrophages from a GFP mouse and try to find them in the brain. Then you can see if the resident microglia was activated and turned into macrophages or if macrophages from the peripheral blood entered the brain.
