With the use of microemulsion method i am preparing metal oxides nanoparticles. In oil phase i am using cyclhexane with CTAB as surfactant and n-butanol as cosurfactant. Other phase is simply of aqeous solution of salt. I want to ask if i want to replace cyclohexane which type of solvent i can use??? Please explain me breifly.
by far what I understand cyclohexane is your organic phase and so if you want to take another alkane, you must take into consideration that the surfactant ratio (CTBA) / cotensioactif (butanol) changes. that is to say, it decreases each time the length of the hydrocarbon chain decreases (in other words the amount of butanol increases with the increase of the hydrocarbon chain). if you do not mind you can take an alkane with a larger C number linked to an aromatic cycle. if not you can also change the alcohol is take pentanol-1.
