Been trying to find a way to automate the process of identifying the gas exchange threshold when plotting VCO2 over VO2. Most seem to do it visually but a 2019 paper (PMID: 31699973) used MATLAB code to identify the inflection point (lsqcurvefit) and run linear regression above and below the inflection (film) to identify a similar threshold while plotting VO2 over watts. Any suggestions/input would be helpful.
I have had a look at the paper of Nilsson et al. (2019) you mentioned but if you just want to automate identification of the gas exchange threshold, you may fit an exponential model (like lsqcurvefit does) and calculate the position x,y of the inflection point on the curve using the second derivative of the function (unless the matlab function allows it). Then, it would be easy to fit a linear model above and below this point. Hope it will help !
