Hello,

My partner and I are looking to dessicate a sputum sample and I am inquiring on the best method to do so. Essentially, we want to dessicate the sample in order to reconstitute the mucus at a higher concentration. As students, we are at the mercy of our University lab's equipment, so were have an issue with our methodology. Initially, we had read literature suggesting dessication in a low temp. (~200F) oven, but that is not available to us. So, we are wondering if we can place the sample in a beaker and then into a boiling water bath? Is this plausible? Would it take a really long time? The sample volume is 12mL if that helps. Any expertise would be helpful and we are open to considering alternative dessication methods as well.
