Mine is a modeling and simulation research. And am writing it up. While I am fairly comfortable with my Model chapter, I am confused as to how much information goes into the Methodology chapter.
I have included choice of case study, data collection protocol etc in Methodology. Should I also write on the modeling protocol here under the head, ' Experimentation', or take it to Model chapter?
I think I need advice.
I suppose the 'modelling' and 'simulation' do not stand in isolation. If I get you right, the first thing to do will be 'modelling' using preferably actual data. Then the 'simulation' bit will involve application of the 'fitted' model to some pre-defined/selected levels/values of the X variables to essentially answer 'if this, then what' questions. If this is the way you have done your work, you may describe methodology on these lines. Note that with a model fitted with actual data, the X variables will cover a certain range. When you use this 'fitted' model for simulation, the specified X values (not necessarily the observed ones) you choose to reflect a certain scenario, need to be within the range of the X variables actually used in deriving the 'fitted' model.
I would suggest a review of the following book:
A.M. Law, Simulation modeling and analysis, 5th ed., McGraw-Hill, Boston, USA, 2015.
Specifically, the first chapter provides useful information about the basics of simulation Modeling.
