hello! we are currently working on a systematic review containing 14 studies - however only 8 studies are similar enough to conduct the meta-analysis on and we are planning to do that. Can we still call it a meta-analysis then?
Yes! . It may called as a meta analysis. Even with 4 studies, its a meta analysis.
Instead, the purpose of meta analysis is to show the strength of your study argument by showing more literature evidences. If you are going to measure the effect size, to check the publication bias, forest plot, you need more studies to show the results both in for and contrast of the study objective. Based on your study criteria, you may decide it confine with eight studies or to collect more yet.
If it is a qualitative context, eight studies are sufficient to argue.

Yes. It can be called meta-analysis. But it is generally recommended to have at least 10 studies. If possible, increase the number of studies.
