Dear All, All those who are facing this problem, I found the reason why mendeley plugin disappeared in my word and how to resolve it. I hope in future, the researcher will found this useful.
1-Whenever any plugin disappears, you can go to Microsoft office file--> Options--> Plugins--> You will find that plugin is disabled. Enable it, It will appear in references.
2-Secondly why this happens. In my case I installed MS office 365 and Office 2016 in the same system which auto disabled the mendeley. However whatever is the reason just follow point-one it will appear again. No need to uninstall and install again

hello muhammad, i am using mendeley to cite reference list in word but suddently the reference list disappeared despite numbering is continued for new citations but no list at the end of the file
I've got this problem too and I fix it by the instruction of Mendeley help center. Remove and reinstall the MS Word plugin from mendeley. If it doesn't work reinstall the latest upgrade of mendeley. it will be OK definitely.
For me to get it working I had to select "template' instead of 'actions' in your Step 2. Also, I had to then remove the template path (keep empty) and check the box for the Mendeley template below.
Btw, the usual path for the template seems to be C:\Users\Frieder\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
Samantha Summer Francisca Abaya Katrina Cockburn Daniel Zuleta Thank you so much for your kind words. I am happy to see the question & answers helped you. I wish you good luck in your research.
I have a similar problem but I have the Mendeley toolbar but am missing the insert citation option. I have it on one of my documents but the one im actually using does not have the option.
Dears, The problem I am facing is slightly different. The Mendeley plug-in is visible on the References Ribbon, but, the "Insert Citation" button is missing! This is very strange and I am unable to fix this and will appreciate if anyone may help in this regard.
Hi guys, I have a similar problem. The "cite" button in the desktop app (not Word!) is missing. Thus, I cannot select any documents in the desktop app and cite them from there. I alraedy re-installed the app but the problem remains. Any ideas?
Patrick Lübbecke to bring the cite option on your desktop mendeley you need to go from word file to your desktop. I hope you will find this video useful. Thank you.
Tianna Twyman Rizwan Khan Perhaps a bit late, but for future reference. I had the same problem, the "Insert citation" button was missing. The solution was to allow macros in Word. It's trivial, but it took me an hour to think of it (after I reinstalled both citation plugin and Medeley to no effect...).
I have a new laptop with Office 365, Windows 10 . . . about a 1/3 of the time I open a word document the Mendely Cite-o-Matic options are not there. I've looked at the "add-ins" and it is there and active. I've also looked at macros and they are present. Any suggestions?? Thank you.
On office 2019, Mendeley suddenly stop adding citations. I click on the insert citation, then choose any random references and nothing appears in the word. Macros and add-in are active and working. Any suggestions?
Muhammad Farooq or can anyone else please help me resolve the similar issue!! Even after clicking it as 'GO' the insert citation icon or mendeley is not popping in my word file..
To Mohammad Bagher Erfanian & Prajakta Rahate : Try some suggestions from this post: https://www.researchgate.net/post/How_to_add_Mendeley_plugin_into_word
To Mohammad Bagher Erfanian & Prajakta Rahate : Many colleagues posted here, as well as in another post (link is above), that they solved their problems. So, it seems that you both having some strange issue. Keep searching for a solution. Good luck!
I just uninstalled MS Word Plugin from Mendeley (Tools -> uninstall MS Word Plugin) and installed it again (from the same place), and immediately it has been restored in Word.
In my case, the plugin is not available in the folder where it should be. The citation tool disappeared from MS Word out of the blue some days ago. I tried some typical solutions such as uninstalling the plugin and installing again. Then I tried your solution and realised that the plugin is not available in the package at all. I've tried reinstalling Mendeley again, but the plugin never comes with the package in the folder wordPlugin. Has anyone gone through this recently?
My problem is: if I press on the insert, the MENDELEY CITATION EDITOR is not appearing during using Word. By chance, I immediately went to Mendeley Desktop and it was there for seconds and then it disappeared completely. I don't know how to manage that the Mendeley Citation Editor appear during using word. I really would need a bit support
you can go to open word page and go to File, then select options and go to Add-ins just in the last you see "manage" research Mendeley and do it enable. lastly, close the file and open it again. done!!
Hi,everyone, I tried everything, still does not work, i can insert but no reference list. for me Add-ins like Ahmad Hassan showed. I also check this link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWSE3Jh7tb
For me, it is not in word Add-ins, it is tempelate, I checked it, it is checked. But still there is no reference list, can anyone help me? Thank you very much.
I did some tests according to all the mentioned methods, i can not solve my problem. For me, inserting reference is ok, the text is also ok, if you refresh it, everything will be changed. Just in the end, no reference list. It is so strange. And if I work with previous word file that has reference list, when i change something, or insert new reference, the reference list also changes. Everything is ok. but If I delete this reference list, it will never appear again. I am so frustrated
Here are two video tutorials covering each and every point of mendeley from literature management to reference management Literature Management - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CyobskxTL8 Reference Management - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kEiK0hSlsA&t=235s
A little tweak in the method of Muhammad worked for me.
After selecting Mendeley in the "Inactive Application Add-ins" (File-Options-Add-ins), select "Word Add-ins" in the dropdown list (instead of "Actions") then "Go".
In the new screen "Templates and Add-ins", tick Mendeley (Mendeley-1.19.4.dotm in my version) under "Global templates and add-ins" then "OK".
