Is there any method to distinguish and measure self-censorship in visual artworks based on the displacement phenomena? Can intensifying some characteristics of a literary text like irony be assumed as a representation of author's self-censorship?
Dear Gloria Lee Mcmillan , sorry it was better to say Freudian displacement concept which may occur during the process of self-censorship, for instance the use of metaphor or metonymy in some texts by the writer or author glossing over explicit idea.
thank you for your comment, I see that generally a work of art is an indirect issue but overuse of figures of speech in Iranian literary works for instance, has took place during eras with maximum of tyranny. It can propose that poets have self-censored themselves to eschew any pursuit, by displacement some direct characters in the cover of metaphoric items, or overusing the figures of speech to postpone or wrapping the direct intended idea.
Can self-censorship cause "overusing" ornamental issues, figures of speech in literary works and decorative quality in visual artworks?
