Hi,

I am currently working on a project where I am looking to measure variables such as sense of presence, immersion, and realism using a self-report questionnaire. Participants are to be divided into two groups: Either viewing a 360 video on a flat-screen or viewing the same video in a Google cardboard VR headset.

My question is, what type of design, within or between groups, would give the most reliable findings? My concern with a between groups design is that a relevant anchor for making judgments on immersion, presence etc. in order to compare the two experiences is lacking, the ratings seem arbitrary.

However, if participants were to experience both conditions in a within groups design, I feel my results would better show if one condition was better or worse than the other with each of these variables as both conditions have been experienced.

Thanks in advance.
