Hi Marilyn, I wonder if a questionnaire would do justice to the desired evaluation. A questionnaire from my point of view would test theoretical knowledge (nearly 100%). A team assessment tool may actually do a better job. Since the focus is on veterans, you may want to modify your assessment tool such that it pays attention to details of the most severe form of injuries most prevalent in this group. Please find attached an article that may be of help. Please share your thoughts on this with me.
Hi Fadekemi, Thanks for sharing the informative article. I've read similar articles on team/organization/system assessment and evaluation.
Due to the time constraint of my DNP (Doctor of Nursing) program I am starting with an introductory level presentation aimed at staff, volunteers, and peers that work directly with veterans that are homeless in shelters, transitional housing, soup kitchens etc. The goal of this first interaction is to increase their knowledge about what Trauma-informed Care is and how to be aware of trauma triggers in their daily practice and interaction with veterans. Hopefully this will increase their awareness of how further traumatization can happen when the veteran is confronted with the trauma triggers.
After graduation when I will have much more time to devote to this project, I plan on building on this presentation with more detailed learning modules and interventions. At that time I will be able to do the team, site, and organization assessments and evaluations.
I am a novice beginning researcher. I will keep you updated on my project progress. My project is more focused on the emotional and psychosocial traumas (keeping in mind the impact on these trauma physical traumas play) rather than physical injury trauma.
we did a number of inservice training courses with nurses and used a questionnaire to measure changes in Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes before and after the course. We had part multiple-choice questions, and True/False questions, if I remember correctly, but added some open-ended questions for extra information.
We did write them both up, but being clinical nurses we never got one of the articles finished, and ended up just presenting at local conferences - easier demand on our time!
Here's a poster we did after one course: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/266157309_Training_and_evaluation_of_psychosocial_interventions
