Maintenance management is a very critical process in industry. Industry practitioners always use software to deal with this process optimally. However, sometimes failure are around, so how and why. Also what actions could be taken to avoid failures in maintenance management process, especially when famous proved software like Maximo is in place.
A) NO product can really address ALL of the possible needs of ALL users - you need to optimize based on your own risk assessments and capabilities. B) MOST 'packages' remain under-utilized for various reasons, or even neglected by the users. PEOPLE use TOOLS, the tool is never perfect, but the selection and use are ALWAYS up to the people.
So, START with a good maintenance plan and personnel. THEN you can assist them with better tools - including software. If you start blaming the tool for all deficiencies, NO tool is going to solve your problems.

Maintenance Plan of any system is driven by the methods suggested by the Original Equipment Manufacturer, Maintainability and Testability built in Design and at the Stage of Installation, Acceptable Failure Rate, its Duration and Effect on Operations/Production, Availability of Skilled Personnel, Spare Parts, Tools, Instruments and Gadgets.
