If we consider a massive mimo system of size M*N, is its capacity multiplied by M, compared to an antenna system without mimo? On the other hand, is the power radiated by the massive mimo system equal to the power of a classic base station multiplied by M?
Under ideal circumstances (perfect CSI, high SNR), we can use zero-forcing to get a capacity that grows proportionally to the number of users. If one keeps a constant ratio between the number of base station antennas and users, then you can achieve this gain without using more radiated power because you increase the beamforming gain to compensate for the fact that the power must be shared between the users
But there are many other parts of the total power consumption. Adding extra hardware components will lead to more power consumption in the transceivers. We discuss these things in my book Massive MIMO networks, which you can download here: http://massivemimobook.com
If you know perfectly the state of the channel (CSI), in this case you can use the SVD decomposition of the channel and consequently share the total power Pt between the M antennas (M
