Other variables (presence of moisture in the bones, level of humidity in the sedimentary environment, acidic content of sediments) combined with temperature AND (most important) temperature variation in short time span will be damaging. I would say low constant temperature would be optimal for preservation. It's the variation of it combined with other factors that will be damaging.
