I am looking for a generic measure of cognitive reserve to include in a battery of tests aiming to characterise SCI/SCD. It is already a large battery so my aim is to identify a recommended measure which is not too large.
There are a few tools out there that have been developed which may provide an estimate of cognitive reserve. Of course, given that cognitive reserve has a neurological basis, it is difficult to say that assessing proxy indicators of cognitive reserve (e.g. education, occupational complexity) actually measures the construct. 'Estimate' is likely a more suitable word in this context. Some of these tools are:
1. The 'Life of Experiences Questionnaire' (LEQ, Valenzuela & Sachdev, 2007)
2. The 'Cognitive Reserve Index questionnaire' (CRIq, Nucci, Mapelli, & Mondini, 2011)
3. The 'Cognitive Reserve Scale' (CRS, Leon, Garcia-Garcia, & Roldan-Tapia, 2014).
In addition, Barbara Colombo at Champlain College is currently in the process of validating a new test to assess cognitive reserve - you may like to contact her via Researchgate.
Perhaps obtaining copies of these tools from the authors and seeing which fits best with your project is a good way forward.
