Since you propose to study two cities in Europe you will have to start with getting a good idea about cultural,educational and economic variables prevalent in the respective countries of Europe these two cities belong to.These variables have different implications on independent mobility.

 I am aware of some research dealing with the movements  (specifically) of migrant children, would this be relevant?

I design right now a similar research in youth mobility. What age children are you looking for? I think to begin with discovering the targets of mobility (destinations, reasons and so on).

@Elena, at the moment I plan to look at children aged 4-7, i mainly want to look at  their use of public space to play, but also their way to school and kindergarten.
